Odisha bans gutkha, pan masala and all tobacco-nicotine products

The Odisha government has announced a statewide ban on all products containing tobacco or nicotine. The decision comes in compliance with directions from the Supreme Court of India and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).Under Regulation 2.3.4 of the Food Safety and Standards (Prohibition and Restrictions on Sales) Regulations, 2011, part of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the new rules prohibit the manufacture, storage, transport, trade, and sale of all tobacco and nicotine products.The ban covers gutkha, pan masala, zarda, khaini, and any other food items containing tobacco or nicotine. It applies to all forms, whether chewable or smokable, flavoured, scented, packaged, or unpackaged, and regardless of the product name.
