The Government Railway Police (GRP) successfully recovered a child who was stolen from the Nandan Kanan Express on the night of January 15, after an intensive multi-district investigation. The accused has been arrested, bringing relief to the child’s family and highlighting the efficiency of the railway police force.
According to GRP officials, multiple police teams from Aligarh to Mirzapur worked continuously day and night to trace the accused and rescue the child. Despite evading arrest for a long time, the accused was finally apprehended near Dadri following crucial technical and field-level investigation.
Investigations revealed that the accused had entered into a deal with a couple to sell the child for ₹3.50 lakh and had already received ₹1 lakh as advance payment. CCTV footage tracked the accused up to Kanpur, after which he went off the police radar.
A major breakthrough came when the railway police restarted their probe from Aligarh railway station, where a ticket purchased through a mobile phone payment raised suspicion and led investigators closer to the accused.
The arrested accused has been identified as Sonu Singh, a resident of Shikarpur in Bulandshahr district. He was arrested along with his wife in connection with the crime.
After the recovery, the child’s mother and grandmother expressed immense joy and gratitude. They praised the railway police for their relentless efforts and swift action, which ensured the safe return of the child.
The GRP has stated that further investigation is ongoing to identify all individuals involved in the child trafficking attempt.
