New Delhi:Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday held consultations with representatives of trade unions and labour organisations in the national capital as part of the preparatory process for the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27.During the meeting, key labour bodies presented their expectations, policy suggestions, and concerns related to employment generation, wage reforms, social security, and workplace safety. The consultation is one of a series of stakeholder meetings conducted by the Finance Ministry ahead of the Budget.The Union Budget 2026-27 is scheduled to be presented on February 1, and the discussions with labour representatives are expected to shape important decisions on labour policies, job creation strategies, and welfare measures.Pre-budget consultations with various sectors — including industry leaders, economists, agriculture groups, and social sector representatives — are ongoing as the Ministry seeks to craft a comprehensive and inclusive financial roadmap for the upcoming fiscal year.
