Cyclone Alert: Schools in 14 Odisha Districts to Remain Closed from October 23-25
Bhubaneswar:A severe cyclonic storm, Cyclone Dana, is expected to make landfall between north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar islands on October 24th . In light of this, the Special Relief Commissioner has announced that schools in 14 districts will remain closed from October 23 to 25.- *Affected Districts:* – Ganjam – Puri – Jagatsinghpur – Kendrapara – Bhadrak – Balasore – Mayurbhanj – Keonjhar – Dhenkanal – Jajpur – Angul – Khordha – Nayagarh – CuttackThe India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert predicting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall above 20cm to occur at isolated places in these districts on October 24 ¹ ². Additionally, an orange warning has been issued regarding very heavy rainfall at isolated places in these districts.*Precautions and Warnings:*- Flash floods- Water logging in low-lying areas- Inundation of agriculture fields- Mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas- Possible damage to roads- Wall collapse of vulnerable houses ²The Odisha government has cancelled the leaves of its employees in view of the forecasted cyclone ¹.
