Cooking Gas Leak Sparks Cylinder Blast in Koraput, Two Critical
Koraput | September 19:
A tragic LPG cylinder blast in Koraput district on Thursday left a woman and her father-in-law critically injured. The incident occurred in Banchalaput village of Kulabira Panchayat under Padua Police Station limits.
The victims have been identified as Balaram Duru and his daughter-in-law Rashmita. According to reports, a loud explosion was heard from Balaram’s house. Villagers rushed to the spot and found the roof blown off while both Balaram and Rashmita were engulfed in flames.
Neighbours immediately doused the fire, rescued the duo and shifted them to Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, where doctors stated their condition is critical.
Upon receiving information, SI Deepak Barik of Padua Police reached the spot and launched an inquiry. Preliminary findings suggest that a cooking gas leak caused the LPG cylinder to explode inside the kitchen.
“As per our initial investigation, the incident occurred due to leakage from a cooking gas cylinder that led to the blast. Both victims sustained severe burn injuries and are under treatment. We are continuing the investigation to rule out any other cause,” SI Barik said.
Police added that further investigation is underway. The incident has sparked concern in the locality, with villagers urging awareness drives on safe gas cylinder handling to prevent such tragedies.
