Yoga guru Baba Ramdev arrived in the holy city of Ayodhya on Tuesday, where he offered prayers at the Ram Janmabhoomi and paid obeisance to Ram Lalla. Prior to his visit, he had taken a holy dip in the Ganga at Prayagraj and received blessings from Vedanti Ji on the occasion of his birthday.
Speaking to the media in Ayodhya, Ramdev described the city as a major pilgrimage centre of Sanatan Dharma that had suffered destruction and oppression during foreign invasions. He said his visit was guided by the resolve to establish the ideals of Lord Ram in the lives of people.
“When the principles of Ram, Krishna, Hanuman, and Shiva are ingrained in every individual, the glory of Sanatan Dharma will naturally be restored in society,” he said. He added that Ram and his values should be reflected in everyday life.
Commenting on the ongoing controversy involving Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand of Prayagraj, Ramdev said that disputes among Sanatanis and Shankaracharyas at pilgrimage sites were unfortunate and should be avoided. He said Shankaracharyas are regarded as embodiments of Lord Shiva and should rise above disagreements.
“What reason does a saint have to engage in disputes?” he asked, adding that there should be no conflicts over rituals such as bathing or palanquins at sacred places. “A true saint is one who conquers his own ego,” he said.
Ramdev also warned that such disputes bring disrepute and harm the dignity of religious institutions. He said Sanatan Dharma faces many challenges and external threats.
“Some forces are trying to Christianize the country, while others want to Islamize it. Sanatan Dharma has many enemies. We should fight them, not fight among ourselves,” he said.
During his visit, the yoga guru also conducted a yoga session for students of a Gurukul at an ashram in Ayodhya and highlighted the importance of yoga in physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
