Odisha Launches Marine Biotechnology Research & Innovation Corridor to Boost Blue Economy

Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards harnessing the potential of marine bioresources, Odisha has launched the Odisha Marine Biotechnology Research & Innovation Corridor (OMBRIC) — an ambitious initiative aimed at fostering scientific excellence, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth in the state’s coastal sector.

OMBRIC will act as a bridge between research and real-world application, empowering young innovators to establish marine biotechnology enterprises that highlight Odisha’s strengths while adhering to global standards. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) and six leading institutions of Odisha — IIT Bhubaneswar, NIT Rourkela, IISER Berhampur, ILS Bhubaneswar, Berhampur University, and Fakir Mohan University. It will focus on pioneering work in gene discovery, bioactive compounds, bioremediation, and other critical areas to strengthen the state’s blue economy.Aligned with the vision of Viksit Odisha 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047, OMBRIC is expected to position Odisha as a hub for coastal innovation and sustainable marine development.
