Azharuddin Becomes 16th Minister of State; Speculations on Portfolio Continue
Hyderabad, Nov 1 (The Information Media):
Speculations continue over the portfolio to be allocated to former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who was sworn in as the 16th Minister of State in Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s cabinet.
The State Cabinet had earlier, in August, cleared the names of Mr. Azharuddin and Professor Kodandaram for nomination to the Legislative Council under the Governor’s quota.
Speaking to reporters after his induction, Mr. Azharuddin declined to respond to comments from opposition parties regarding his appointment. He said there was no need to react to Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy’s remarks or the political interpretations being made ahead of the Jubilee Hills bypoll.
Referring to the allegations made against him, Mr. Azharuddin said they were “mere allegations” and that “nothing has been proven” in any of the cases filed against him. He added that he was willing to take up any responsibility assigned to him and work with dedication under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership.
