Koraput District Receives Top Honors for Millet Production and Ragi Procurement!
Bhubaneswar:In a remarkable achievement, Koraput district has been recognized by the Hon’ble Chief Minister for its exceptional performance in millet production and ragi procurement under the Sri Anna Abhiyan initiative. The Collector of Koraput accepted this prestigious award on behalf of the district’s dedicated departmental officers and farmers.
*Odisha’s Millet Mission Success*
This accomplishment is a testament to the success of Odisha Millets Mission (OMM), launched by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment in 2017-18 ¹. Initially implemented in 30 blocks across seven districts, OMM has since expanded to 143 blocks across 19 districts
*Key Highlights:*- _Highest Millet Production_: Koraput district has achieved the highest millet production in the state.- _Ragi Procurement_: The district has also excelled in ragi procurement, promoting the growth of this nutritious crop.- _Farmer Empowerment_: This achievement is a result of the tireless efforts of Koraput’s farmers and the supportive departmental officers.
*A State-Level Impact*Odisha has witnessed significant growth in millet production, with a four-fold increase in the budget allocation for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, from Rs. 1823.77 Cr in 2013-14 to Rs. 7135.89 Cr in 2023-24 . The state’s millet production has contributed to India’s overall 27% growth in millet production in 2021-22 .
